Volunteer Park Trust Park Cleanup a Success

On September 30, the Volunteer Park Trust hosted a work party to clear invasives and weeds from two major planting beds in Volunteer Park, located just west and north of the north Lily Pond.   Nearly 100 volunteers were on hand on a stunningly beautiful sunny day. Seattle Parks provided gardening tools and guidance, led by Volunteer Park staff gardener Nancy Cifuentes.  As a member of the Volunteer Park Trust stewardship committee, Seattle Landscape Architect Brooks Kolb weeded and mulched along with the best of them!  Seattle Parks Foundation Executive Director Thatcher Bailey and Seattle City Council member Sally Bagshaw were both on hand.  As Chair of the Council’s Parks and Recreation committee, Sally Bagshaw praised the Trust for our high level of organization for the event.  This was the first of many on-going work parties as we begin to clean up all the beds ringing the Volunteer Park reservoir.   In the weeks ahead, look on the calendar athttp://www.volunteerparktrust.org for dates of our upcoming work parties.

Here are a few photos from the successful event.
